Coming in 2014: a "Trio Dobro" CD: Mike Auldridge, Jerry Douglas & Rob Ickes
An exciting project to watch for in 2014 is a “dobro trio” CD by Mike Auldridge, Jerry Douglas and Rob Ickes. The forthcoming album, as yet untitled, was recorded in a number of sessions during 2012, whenever their schedules allowed the three to converge to record together in a studio near Auldridge’s home in Silver Spring, Maryland. more>>

"Resonator Radical" on the August 2011 Guitar Player Magazine cover
A big thanks to Matt Blackett for authoring the 12-page cover story for the August issue of Guitar Player Magazine. It's a wide-ranging article and interview, touching on techniques, gear, influences, practice regimen, Three Ring Circle and the Brothership recording sessions, and lots more.
I found myself fielding questions on everything from playing a C# diminished chord to the "scariest jam session" I've been in. My thought process gets close scrutiny—for example, how I'm "thinking geographically and not sonically" when I'm improvising on something like "You Can't Know."
All in all, a fun ride for me as the interview subject, and I hope for you as the reader.
I had a blast recording the new Three Ring Circle project, Brothership, with Andy Leftwich (mandolin, fiddle) and Dave Pomeeroy (bass). With 8 original instrumentals, plus special guest Jon Randall Stewart with great vocals on the Tom Petty song, Wildflowers, and TRC's take on two of my fave modern jazz compositions (John Scofield's A Go Go and Ralph Towner's Anthem), it's a CD I think you'll enjoy. It's available here, where you'll find sound clips for all 11 tracks, early reviews, and more info.
